Why John Edwards Has Yet To Endorse Clinton Or Obama

- Politics -

Clinton, Obama and Edwards at CNN Debate
When Senator John Edwards dropped his presidential bid last Wednesday, both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama scrambled to assemble a side campaign to gain the North Carolina democrat’s highly-valued endorsement.

At the beginning of last Thursday’s CNN debate at Kodak Theater in California, the two leading Democratic candidates took very little time in acknowledging Edwards (Can also be read as: kissing up, brown-nosing, britches-dusting) and what he means to this 2008 political campaign.

New York Times op-ed columnist Paul Krugman went so far as to say that Clinton and Obama adjusted their own campaigns to keep up with the bold policy issues raised by Edwards

At the beginning of 2007, it seemed likely that the Democratic nominee would run a cautious campaign, without strong, distinctive policy ideas. That, after all, is what John Kerry did in 2004.

If 2008 is different, it will be largely thanks to Mr. Edwards. He made a habit of introducing bold policy proposals — and they were met with such enthusiasm among Democrats that his rivals were more or less forced to follow suit.

As of today, the morning of Super Tuesday the 5th of February, Edwards is still mum on who he will endorse.

My theory as to why he is holding out is fairly simple: if he can’t win a presidential nomination, he would gladly accept a vice presidential bid — again.

According to the latest national polls, Clinton has a slight edge over Obama going into today’s Super Tuesday primaries. Although many Democrats salivate over a potential Clinton/Obama ticket, nobody is quite sure this dream can become a reality. Even though the two managed to play nice in the most recent Democratic debate, they have had many heated battles along the campaign trail.

Enter: John Edwards.

Edwards is liked by most Democrats who know his stance on issues. He never managed to garner enough popularity or recognition to get his name listed first on a presidential ballot, but he fits in quite well as the second-fiddle.

No matter who wins the presidential nomination, there is a good chance neither Clinton or Obama would be willing to swallow their pride to accept the role as second-fiddle in the race for the White House. Edwards, however, would gladly accept the Robin role to either candidate’s Batman.

But if Edwards endorses the losing candidate of the primaries, the winner may take the move personally and not extend an invitation for him to become the party’s nominee for vice president. And considering the only way Edwards may ever reach the White House is as vice president, he has to take his time to see who will be the clear winner of the Democratic primaries. He would hate to have campaigned for as long as he has and have nothing to show for it.

Being Native American Indian we as a Nation in a Nation have through out the 500 plus years have been left in darkness in terms of politics. There has been in our history only two known Democratic Candidates that looked as being first citizens and of this land. Those Candidates were John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and William Clinton.

History has been our teacher; she has taught the tapestry of the trail of the Treaties, we learned through treaties of the lies, murder, theft and rape of a nation. Has always been our landmark of treatment from the United States government and its Politics.

Once again as history repeats it’s self we are without a voice, a face to say the least. The only time any political candidate views us is when a vote is needed. We have set quietly and watched and do know history. In 1862 the Sioux up rising in Minnesota our headsmen and chiefs paid the highest price of all they paid with their life all for Politics as did every Indian Nations within this land. Thirty nine men scheduled to be hung in Mankato Minnesota one was an African American who’s was later Identified as being the person committing the rapes and murders. He turned Government witness against the Sioux Nation of that time. Thirty eight Treaty Chiefs and headsmen were hung until death came to their bodies. Just a little bit of history. To say nothing about the 1868 treaty, Battle of Little Big Horn. The government and its army thought the Great Sioux Nation was gathered at the Big Horns to for war. This is so far from the truth my people we gathered discussing the fate of a nation and our way of life as we knew it. Custer, before coming to the location of the Big Horns pasted through our sacred spiritual mountain. He camped at the foot of what is known to my people as Bear Butt. Late the night of his encampment Custer along with a three soldiers climbed to the top of the mountain. Custer wanted to know why we gathered there. He thought it was a military base. Mountain was sacred to my people and still is. Custer was given a vision he was shown he would be taking his soldiers to their death before their time. Custer did not listen we moved forward instead as a result his soldiers did die before their time.

Democratic Candidates, have yet to address the needs of my people now they are coming to the place we call our birth place we are the Great Lakota Nation. They want our vote, first start speaking the truth don’t they think we have been lied too enough. We are not children, we are not invisible, we are not here to be murdered or hated, above all stop stealing from us at best let us live. We as a Nation do vote .
